Groucho at Garr and Phabulous Phalaropes

Greetings -

Despite the wind, Garr Ranch was alive with birds on Monday morning. I
can't remember which birds have been reported recently. These are
"firsts" for me this year - Cordilleran Flycatcher, Warbling Vireo,
Plumbeous Vireo, Wilson's Warbler and Brewer's Sparrow. The Northern
Waterthrush was still in the bog and I also saw Western Tanager,
Bullock's Oriole and Common Grackle. My absolute favorite sighting of
the day was the Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. Those males were lookin' good
and their eyebrows were so dark, they rivaled those of Groucho Marx.

I put my blinders on as I crossed the causeway. I needed to get home so
I could go out and do some more birding. Despite the blinders, I could
not ignore the 200-300 phalaropes on the north side of the causeway
between mile markers 4 and 5. It was a mixed group of Wilson's and
Red-necked wearing the most beautiful spring plumage you've ever seen.
