I have to say, the markings are identical to a Rock
Wren. Here's a link to a Rock Wren photo on my Web site:

The markings and bill on these birds, to me,
appear identical except for the obvious youthfulness of Brian's
bird.
On the size issue, it's very easy to misjudge the
size through binoculars or a camera telephoto lens. I do it more than I'd like
to admit :-(
