Rock Cliff/Jordanelle Reservoir: 8-May-2005

Greetings

I ventured east to the Rock Cliff park at the upper end of Jordanelle
Reservoir (Wasatch County) this morning. It was quite foggy, so bird
photography was a bit challenging. And it is still a bit early up there;
many of the trees are just starting to leaf out. But there was a lot of bird
activity nonetheless.

Yellow Warblers were abundant and vocal, as were Song Sparrows. A female
Osprey was sitting on a nest near the west end of the camping areas south of
the Provo River. There were many Western/Clark's grebes on the lake below
the boat ramp, I counted 150 and probably missed quite a few diving birds.
Mountain Bluebirds awere singing, and Red-shafted Flickers were calling. At
least two pairs of American Kestrels were seen near the Nature Center. So it
is early spring up there, and the walk along the extensive
boardwalk/bridge/trail system might be even more rewarding in a week or so.

Some pictures taken today (Yellow Warbler, Song Sparrow, Osprey, Mountain
Bluebird) have been added to the website at the URL

Cheers
