Bear River/Antelope Island Saturday

Greetings

Two Kansas birders (myself and KOS president Gene Young) as well as a
recently-transplanted postdoctoral researcher from Rhode Island, took a trip
to Bear River (BR) and Antelope Island (AI) yesterday, via the Sage-Grouse
lek west of Henefer. Notable sightings included

At least two different Red-breasted Merganser drakes (BR)
American White Pelican vainly trying to capture some very large carp (BR)
A very pale, reddish and unstreaked American Pipit (alticola subspecies)
with a flock of winter-plumaged pipits (BR)
Several flocks of Western Sandpipers and Sanderlings (AI causeway)
Black-bellied Plovers (AI causeway)
Long-eared Owl (AI)

Gene picked up two lifers (Sage Grouse and Chukar), and we all had a good
time prior to the start of the afternoon thundershowers!

Some photos taken yesterday (and previously) as well as an animated version
of the pelican who was unable to get a grip on the large carp, can be seen
at

Cheers
