Re: dumb gull question...a clarification

Hi all,

I know about Bonaparte's and Franklin's Gulls.  I've seen both.  I also know that most gulls lose their hoods in the winter.  However, the guy that I saw had a hood, and I was merely asking (after consulting a field guide and seeing that no hooded gulls are usually in Utah in the winter) what it could possibly be because I'm not from Utah.  I would imagine that if I was back in New England and some of you were their for your first winter birding, you might see something that you didn't know what it was and ask a question like this.

Good birding,
Richard

Subject: [BirdTalk] dumb gull question...

Hi all,

I have a dumb question about gulls.

What gull would we have here in Utah (Hyrum/Nibley area) that has a black head?

I saw one on the way home to Hyrum from Logan; we were driving east on 3200 South from Rt.89/91.

Good birding,
Richard
