I received this email yesterday from an individual in Goleta, Santa Barbara county, CA.
The juvenile Trumpeter Swan with the yellow collar 9Y3, that was spotted at Hyrum Reservoir by BAS on November 20, 2004, has shown up at the Devereux Slough in Goleta, CA.
I thought that you all might be interested in this information.

Late this afternoon, Rebecca Coulter found a juvenile TRUMPETER SWAN at
Devereux Slough that was hanging out with the TUNDRA SWAN found here a few
days ago. This bird had a yellow neck collar with the designation 9Y3. The
bird is apparently one from a population in southeastern Idaho that winters
at the Henry's Fork River and Harriman State Park. As far as I understand,
birds from this population are considered NOT to be established, at least by
the California Bird Records Committee (IF ANYONE KNOWS DIFFERENTLY, PLEASE
POST TO THIS LIST!!!). It may further complicate matters that young
Trumpeters with yellow or red neck collars have been relocated from these
wintering areas by Idaho Fish & Game to more southerly areas where the cold
and the freezing of lakes and streams is less of a danger.
Rebecca and I watched the bird for a bit around 4pm. While we were
distracted by a flock of Canada Geese taking off, the swans somehow managed
to disappear. Some of you may recall that at least one of the Tundras that
visited this area a year ago was seen at both the nearby dune pond and the
slough itself. Hopefully, both swans seen today are still around.
An interesting aside is that this very bird (the Trumpeter, not the Tundra)
was apparently sighted at Hyrum Reservoir in northern Utah less than three

For anyone who thinks it's not worth it to go out and have a look at a bird
that is not technically considered wild (or "countable"), you might want to
consider that you may never again have a chance to look at Tundra and
Trumpeter Swan side by side locally. Seeing Trumpeter Swan at all is nice
enough. Being able to compare juvs of both species is a great opportunity.
