Yellowstone Details

Ok, now that I have my map on hand I can give more detailed info about Yellowstone.

Great Gray Owl-- DeLacey Creek trail to Shoshone Lake--- Riddle Lake Trail--- Bridge Bay Area.

Boreal Owl-- Moose Creek Plateau, Summit Lake Trail.

Trumpter Swan- West Entrance Road about 8 miles in breeding pair. The Road has signs about fishing not being allowed because of the breeding pair.  Best place to see them is from a historic site pull out.

Black-backed Woodpecker- New Burnt area.  East Entrace Road look for them from Lake Butte Overlook Rd to Sylvan Pass.

Grizzly Bear-- East Entrance Rd about 7 miles from Fishing Bridge past the rock barriers separating the road from the lake. East Entrance Road is only open from 6-10am and 6-10pm.

Black Bear- Between Geode creek and Floating Island Lake.

Wolves- Northeast Entrance Rd past Towers

Here is what Cliff Weisse from ID sent me about Owl in Island park.

The owls are very hard to find this time of year.  You might try playing Boreal Owl tapes on the Sawtell Peak Rd. at the corner past the green maintenance shed.  There are also Red Crossbills, Clark's Nutcrackers, and Three-toed Woodpeckers up there.  Great Gray Owls are possible along the Targhee Creek Trail Rd.  It's on the left (north) side of US 20 on the way up Targhee Pass between Island Park and West Yellowstone.  The road will have a steep ridge on the right side with a lot of broken off Fir trees on it.  That's the place to look.

For anyone going up good luck.  Email me if you have any questions.

Good Birding
