Pentax binoculars

OK, I'm looking for some biased and un-biased opinions
regarding the Pentax 8X42 (HRII's, I think, judging by
the picture).  I have a chance to pick up a pair as an
"anniversary award" at work.  The 2 reviews I've read
are very diverse-- "greatest thing since sliced bread"
to "don't bother trying to use them for birding".
If they are not any better than the Nikon 8X40 Egret
porro's that I'm using now, I'll probaby go with the
Trek Mtn. bike or the Sony Home Theater.  Ahh, I hate
these tough decisions!!!
