Thursday Birding

Tim Avery and I did some birding around the Great Salt Lake today. We saw some of the previously reported birds including:

Mayor's Pond (Box Elder Co.)
1. Canada Goose - 1
2. Mallard - 2
3. Green-winged Teal - 3
4. Gadwall -15
5. American Wigeon - 25
6. Ring-necked Duck - 10
7. GREATER SCAUP - 40
8. Lesser Scaup - 20
9. Bufflehead - 1 female
10. Common Goldeneye - 31
11. BARROW'S GOLDENEYE - a pair
12. Common Snipe - 4

There appears to be a fair number of ducks moving in and out of these ponds. Tim and I both thought that this pond should be checked regularly for both Eurasion Wigeon and Tufted Duck.

Antelope Island Causeway
1. Bufflehead ~ 10
2. Common Goldeneye ~ 50
3. LONG-TAILED DUCK - 1 male & 2 females at the second bridge
4. Least Sandpiper - 6
5. Killdeer - 1
6. Prairie Falcon - 1
7. Peregrine Falcon - 1
8. Horned Lark - a flock of around 100 birds
9. Common Raven - 4

Unfortunately, we were not able to spend very much time at the Bountiful Dump. However in our short time there we saw Ring-billed, California, Herring, Thayer's and Glaucous (1) Gulls.
