Birds today on the road to Tony Grove, Cache National Forest

Took a drive this afternoon and evening up to Tony Grove - my first visit -
and it was wonderful! The wildflowers are just spectacular - too bad I
don't know what any of them were! Have to get the field guides out.

BIRDS SEEN INCLUDED:
broad-tailed and calliope hummingbirds
western wood-pewee
warbling vireo
violet-green swallow
ruby-crowned kinglet
mountain bluebird
hermit thrush & ?Swainson's thrush? heard only - have to check tapes to be
sure
yellow warbler
western tanager
green-tailed towhee
white-crowned sparrow
black-headed grosbeak
lazuli bunting
Dark-eyed junco - the race with the rusty back - very striking bird
Plus other more common stuff...

Best sighting of the day was a mountain bluebird and lazuli bunting perched
in the same tree, about 2 feet from each other - single binocular view!
Most disturbing sighting was a brown-headed cowbird - he really didn't fit
way up there in the mountains...
