Carbon County, Great Egret and more

Eric Huish and I headed down to bird Carbon County today. That is the Price City area for those unfamiliar. Our first stop was a road that follows the Price River south of Wellington. Here we saw many birds including a surprising GRAY CATBIRD. A small settling pond in the area had DC Cormarant and Wilson's Phalarope. We also got great looks at Blue Grosbeaks. Also in Wellington at the Price Water Treatment plant along the Price River behind the plant we saw a GREAT EGRET and Black Crowned Night Heron and a vocal Yellow-Breasted Chat. We went to Gordon Creek WMA where we saw Cordilleran Flycatchers and many other speices. We drove that road to Scofield. Along the road we saw an Olive Sided Flycatcher, Hairy Woodpecker and many other mountain species. In the town of Scofield on the east side of the main highway through town at feeders we have visited before in the winter had Evening Grosbeaks. I believe that Julie and Pomera reported these as well. On the resivoir there were several species of ducks, including a late Common Goldeneye. There was also a Common Loon there as well. Along with a pair of Sandhill Cranes. All together we saw 83 species in Carbon County. Was a wonderful day to be out. There is some great birding in that county.
