This Checklist contains 465 species documented with physical evidence or at least to sight records accepted by the Utah Bird Records Committee through September 2024, arranged in taxonomic order and using nomenclature of the American Ornithological Society's Checklist of North American Birds, 7th Edition, 64th supplement.

(For lists of “Provisional Species,” “Unverified Species,” “Established Introduced Species,” and “Non-established Introduced Species,” go to the “Auxiliary Lists” on the Records Committee website).

Documentation is requested for sightings of birds notated with a # on this checklist or any bird not on the checklist. You can submit written documentation or print a sight record on the internet at www.utahbirds.org/RecCom.  Documentation and photographs can be submitted to Utahbirds@gmail.com.
 

Key to Codes  (updated in 2019)

   Abundance Codes
C = COMMON - Found consistently in large numbers in appropriate habitat and season
U = UNCOMMON - Inconsistently found  in small numbers in appropriate habitat and season
R = RARE - Found infrequently but annually in very small numbers in appropriate habitat and season
O = OCCASIONAL - Not observed annually, but a few individuals may occur some years in appropriate habitat and season
A = ACCIDENTAL - Not expected and out of normal range (few records)

   Status Codes
P =   Permanent Resident (Found year round in the state)
S =   Summer Resident (Present in the state during the nesting season)
W =  Winter Visitant (Present in the state during January and/or February)
M =   Migrant (Migrates through the state in spring and/or fall)
