Phil Helsley (16 May 2008) - [White-winged Dove] We were camping on the East side of the Henry Mountains over the weekend and I was able to this new bird to my life list. - The Dove flew right into camp and strutted around on the ground in front of us. The camera was in the car and by the time I was ready the dove had flown to a nearby cottonwood tree.

Rick Fridell - On Monday (July 16, 2007), Kristen and I were very surprised to see a Pacific Loon at Panguitch Lake, Garfield Co., UT. The loon appeared to be a first summer bird in basic plumage. Lu Giddings (18 May 2007) - A male Vermillion Flycatcher was seen at about 1:30 p.m. today on the Posey Lake road about 5 miles north of Escalante. It was frequenting a field immediately along the west of the road and about 150 yards north of the Roundy's home. I was able to watch it for about 10 minutes and to take some photos in which the bird is easily identified.
Mar 2007
Lu Giddings (9 Mar 2007) - I had the opportunity to spend about three hours early this afternoon in Tropic and Cannonville. Best bird of the trip was a Merlin that was both very photogenic and cooperative. Birds of note would include the 6-12 Eurasian Collared-Doves observed in Tropic.
Nov 2006
Michelle Brodie (27 Nov 2006) - On Saturday, November 25, I found a Northern Waterthrush in Harris Wash in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument at around 3:00 PM. The bird was about 40 yards past the fence that goes all the way across the wash. I think this fence is about 2 or 3 miles from the trailhead. The trailhead is accessed from Hole-in-the-Rock Road off Highway 12 in Escalante. It was out in the open eating in the wash. I got some good video of the bird if documentation is needed...Another good bird there was an adult male Northern Goshawk...

Tom Clark - At 9;45am Jun 22, I observed a male Black-and-white Warbler in Capitol Reef National Park along the Notom-Bulfrog Road at the turn off to Cedar Mesa Campground. I was running a BBS route at the time and watched the bird foraging in the juniper trees adjacent to the road.

Nov 2003
H. Gail Pollock - At Tropic, Garfield County, Utah; on 5 November 2003 a Kentucky Warbler flew into my kitchen window and fell stunned. Examined the bird in hand. Colors were still bright more like breeding plumage than fall coloring. This bird was a male judging from a careful examination of the mustache. I was a member of the Kansas City Burrough Audubon Society and have bird watched for many years. Familiar with the common eastern warblers. This Kentucky revived and was released.
Oct 2003
Matt Thorum (5 Oct 2003) - We did a little birding on Boulder Mountain. Near the summit we stopped and walked for a while (I believe it was the Pleasant Creek trailhead on the west side of the road). We saw about a dozen Western Bluebirds in a meadow and tons (50-100) Yellow-rumped Warblers in a flock foraging in the aspens along with a few BC Chickadees and RC Kinglets. On the south side of the mountain the Acorn Woodpecker was still at the same tree busily gathering acorns from the nearby Gamble Oaks.

July 2003
Letitia - (4 July 2003) (Acorn Woodpecker) This was my 2nd
attempt to catch this bird....I went to the area where previously seen (Hwy 12
between mile marker 93-94) and planned to hand out all morning if need be.
I jumped when 3 woodpeckers flew by but they turned out to be only Lewis'. Then
I heard some drumming... I did manage to locate the offenders and it was a pair
of Hairy Woodpeckers. I was beginning to think that I would get every woodpecker
but you know what. Then I heard the rattle call... low and behold there was my
clown bird storing acorns. The place is very obvious, just look for a huge dead
ponderosa filled with nesting cavities and acorns.
June 2002
Pomera - (19 June 2003) Dana Green and I birded Capitol Reef National Park earlier this week.
