BOX ELDER COUNTY
Shorebirds continue to be the big show at BRMBR. Among the many dowitchers there on Monday, 08/07, were at least two SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, one near the northwest corner of the auto-tour loop, and the other along the east side (JHu,MS).
At the Willard Spur of the Great Salt Lake, a COMMON TERN was seen among many other terns on Monday, 08/07 (JHu,MS). The Willard Spur can be reached by going to the entrance to Harold Crane WMA, and continuing north along the base of the Willard Bay dike.
CARBON COUNTY
At Scofield Reservoir, several PURPLE MARTINS and a breeding-plumage COMMON LOON were seen on Friday, 07/28 (JVM).
Three BURROWING OWLS were seen on a farm in Wellington, Utah, about 10 miles south of Price, on Sunday, 07/30 (WH).
JUAB COUNTY
The immature RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, which was seen at Fish Springs NWR on Tuesday, 07/25, was last reported in the picnic area on Saturday, 07/29 (JB).
RICH COUNTY
Along Crawford Mountain Road, which heads east from SR 16 about 1.5 miles north of Randolph, several BLACK TERNS and 7 EASTERN KINGBIRDS were seen on Monday, 07/31 (JVM).
SALT LAKE COUNTY
Along the JRP, a GREEN HERON was seen on Monday, 07/31, just north of the bridge at 3900 South. A SEMIPALMATED PLOVER continues to be seen just north of 3300 South as of Monday, 07/31 (JH).
Several good birds were seen in the Brighton area on Sunday, 08/06. A TOWNSEND'S WARBLER was seen about 1/4 mile up the Lake Solitude Trail, and 4 THREE-TOED WOODPECKERS were seen along the Clayton Peak Trail. Three BLACK SWIFTS were seen from the pass along the Clayton Peak Trail (J&KB).
TOOELE COUNTY
Many sandpipers were seen on the mudflats along the south side of I-80 just east of Wendover, UT on Sunday, 08/06 (JHu,HL,MS). Among the birds seen were SEMIPALMATED, WESTERN, LEAST, BAIRD'S and PECTORAL SANDPIPERS. The best mudflats were near mile marker 4 and between mile markers 7 and 8.
A pair of LEAST FLYCATCHERS was seen at the BoRec wetlands mitigation area below Jordanelle Dam on Saturday, 08/05 (AC). The birds were seen in the brush near the bridge at the north end of the area. They were seen near the same place on Monday, 08/07 (J&KB). Least Flycatchers have been reported from that area for the past 5 years.
At the upper end of Deer Creek Reservoir, a pair of OSPREY and at least 28 SANDHILL CRANES were seen on Tuesday, 08/01 (BW).
Low water at Quail Creek Reservoir has exposed mudflats and rock bars at the north end of the reservoir. Among many birds reported from there on Wednesday, 08/09, were WESTERN and LEAST SANDPIPERS, and 3 GREEN HERONS. A COMMON MERGANSER was also seen at the reservoir (RF).
Three juvenile COMMON MOORHENS were seen at Berry Springs Marsh on Wednesday, 08/09 (RF). Berry Springs Marsh is located between the Virgin River and SR 9, just east of the Quail Creek Chevron station, about 5 miles west of Hurricane.
