BOX ELDER COUNTY

An AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN is spending the winter at BRMBR. It was seen at the southeast corner of the auto-tour loop on Saturday, 01/29 (B&TC).

CACHE COUNTY Fourteen pairs of BARROW'S GOLDENEYE were on the pond at first dam, at the mouth of Logan Canyon on Saturday, 01/29 (JN). The pond at first dam is one of the most reliable places to find Barrow's Goldeneye in Utah.

SALT LAKE COUNTY The JRP continues to produce some interesting birds. A HARRIS'S SPARROW was seen again on the parkway just north of 106th South on Sunday, 01/30, in the same location where it was seen in December (B&TC). An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was seen near 6400 South on Wednesday, 02/02 (AM), and a HERMIT THRUSH was seen on Sunday, 01/30, near Germania Park (DG,JVM).

A MERLIN was seen perched on a wire along 2100 South at 1700 East, across the street from Highland High School, on Friday morning, 02/04 (MS).

A male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was seen on Tuesday, 02/01, in the pond at an un-named park one block north of Murray-Holladay Blvd. at 1590 East (SC).

UTAH COUNTY A SWAMP SPARROW was seen along Swede Lane, west of Springville, on Tuesday, 02/01 (CP). The bird was seen along the east side of the road, just north of a haystack, where the water comes close to the road. The area can be reached by taking exit 263 from I-15, and going west for about 1.5 miles to Swede Lane, and then turning north.

WASHINGTON COUNTY The apparent YELLOW-BILLED LOON, which was seen at Quail Creek Reservoir on 01/14, was seen again on Thursday, 02/03 (RF). The bird is in first-winter plumage. This is the seventh record of Yellow-billed Loon in Utah.

Announcement: The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources needs volunteers for this year's Great Salt Lake Waterbird Survey. Volunteers will survey waterbirds in a specific area once each ten days from April through September. For more information, call Don Paul at (801) 721-9780.
