BOX ELDER COUNTY

Two adult THAYER'S GULLS were seen along the south side of the auto-tour loop at BRMBR on Monday, 01/03 (CW).

CACHE COUNTY A VARIED THRUSH continues to be seen near the Logan Golf Course. The bird was seen on Saturday and Sunday, 01/01 and 01/02 (RR). It was seen on the east side of the golf course, on the trail which runs north from the east end.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW and 3 HARRIS'S SPARROWS were seen in Mendon, west of Logan, on Tuesday, 01/04 (BA). The birds were on a 20-acre parcel of private property at the west end of 200 South in Mendon. Birders are welcome here, but please help preserve this welcome by acting courteously.

IRON COUNTY The RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, which has been seen intermittantly in Cedar Valley west of Cedar City, was seen again on Friday, 01/07 (reported by SS). The bird was very close to where it was originally seen, at the intersection of 2800 North and 3900 West.

SAN JUAN COUNTY An apparent CANYON TOWHEE was seen at the Hatch Trading Post southeast of Blanding on Friday, 01/07 (DG). The bird was seen in the brush along the fence on the west side of the parking area. Hatch Trading Post is located on Hovenweep Road, which leads to Hovenweep NM. To get there, take US 191 south from Blanding to SR 262, and turn east. Follow the signs to Hovenweep NM until you get to Hatch Trading Post, about 14 miles east of US 191. If confirmed, this would be the first record of Canyon Towhee in Utah.

SALT LAKE COUNTY A HARRIS'S SPARROW was seen along the Jordan River Parkway on Sunday, 01/02 (M&MS). The bird was just north of 106th South, at the end of the golf course along the parkway trail.

A female HOODED MERGANSER was seen in the pond at the Great Salt Lake Marina at Saltair on Thursday, 01/06 (BH).

WEBER COUNTY At the Ogden Nature Center, a WHITE-TROATED SPARROW was seen on Monday, 01/03 (CW). It was at the second bird-feeder along the trail.

This concludes the Utah Bird Report for Saturday, January 7, 2000.
