BOX ELDER COUNTY

Birds seen at BRMBR over the past week included three TRUMPETER SWANS, two adults and an immature, which were seen on Saturday, 02/06, (BH) about 1/2 mile east of the SW corner of the auto-tour loop. Also at the refuge was a male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, seen on Thursday, 02/10, and a MERLIN, also seen on Thursday, 02/10, along the road to the refuge (LS).


DAVIS COUNTY A SNOW BUNTING was seen along the AIC on Saturday, 02/12, (MW). The bird was between the causeway entrance and the first bridge.

At FBWMA, about 500 TUNDRA SWANS were seen on Saturday, 02/12 (MW), and a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE in breeding plumage was seen about 300 yds. east of the parking lot at the end of the west dike road (BH).


SALT LAKE COUNTY Two BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS were again seen along the JRP on Sunday, 02/07 (JH). They were seen about 1/2 mile north of 3900 South.

Also at the JRP, a male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was seen just north of 106th South on Sunday, 02/07 (JN).


WASHINGTON COUNTY The YELLOW-BILLED LOON, continues to be seen at Quail Creek Reservoir, with sightings on Saturday, 02/05 (R JA,KJ,SS), and on Thursday, 02/10 (BS). The bird is in first-winter plumage. This is the seventh record of Yellow-billed Loon in Utah.

A SWAMP SPARROW was heard at the Seegmiller Marsh on Saturday, 02/05 (SS). Seegmiller Marsh is located in Washington Fields, just north of the pond at the Springs Estates development. This area is private property, but the owners allow birders to visit. Please act courteously to help preserve this access.

Two GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS were seen at the Red Cliffs Recreation Area near Leeds on Saturday, 02/05 (SS).

Also seen at the Red Cliffs area on Saturday, 02/05, was a RUFOUS-CROWNED SPARROW (SS).

At the Southgate Golf Course in St. George, an immature GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was seen on Saturday, 02/05, and a GREEN HERON was seen in along the river at the golf course on Saturday, 02/05 (RJA,KJ,SS).

A FOX SPARROW was seen along the Virgin River Parkway, about 1/2 mile upstream from the southern-most parking area, on Thursday, 02/10 (BS).

A DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT was seen at Baker Reservoir, north of Veyo, on Saturday, 02/05 (RJA,KJ).

A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen at Washington Fields on Sunday, 02/06 (RJA,KJ).


WEBER COUNTY Ten WOOD DUCKS were seen on Teal Pond at the Ogden Nature Center on Thursday, 02/10 (LS).

Two "Slate-colored" race DARK-EYED JUNCOS were seen along the Ogden River walkway about 300-400 yds. east of Washington Blvd. on Wednesday, 02/09 (CR).


Announcements: Congratulations to R.J. Adams and Kevin Johnson, for setting a new Utah "Big Day" record for the month of February. They recorded 88 species on Sunday, 02/06.

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources needs volunteers for this year's Great Salt Lake Waterbird Survey. Volunteers will survey waterbirds in a specific area once each ten days from April through September. For more information, call Don Paul at (801) 721-9780.
