BOX ELDER COUNTY

A lone BAIRD'S SANDPIPER was seen at the southwest corner of the auto-tour loop at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge on Saturday, 02/20 (J&SS).

Along the White's Valley Road, about 60 GRAY PARTRIDGE were seen on Saturday, 02/20. The birds were about 1 mile from the exit from I-84. AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS were also in the same area (J&SS).


CACHE COUNTY At a feeder in Hyde Park, north of Logan, a HOARY REDPOLL was seen on the morning of Friday, 02/26. The bird came to the feeder between 7:30 and 8:00 am, and was in a flock of GRAY-CROWNED and BLACK ROSY-FINCHES (L&RR). For information on the bird and the exact location, please call Ron Ryel at (435) 753-6077 or Mark Stackhouse at (801) 486-2221. This is the first report of a Hoary Redpoll in Utah.

An immature HARRIS' SPARROW was seen at the same feeder in Hyde Park on Tuesday, 02/16 (L&RR).


DAVIS COUNTY An apparent second-winter THAYER'S GULL was seen along the west dike road at Farmington Bay WMA on Thursday, 02/18 (CG).


IRON COUNTY Two female BARROW'S GOLDENEYE were still present on the pond at the Kanarraville Rest Area on I-15 as of Thursday, 02/18. On the same day, numerous MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS were seen in Cedar Valley (JK,SS,LW).


MILLARD COUNTY At least 100 SNOW GEESE have been seen at Gunnison Bend Reservoir since the weekend of 02/13-14 (BW).


SALT LAKE COUNTY A HARRIS' SPARROW was seen at the ponds across from the Federal Express building at the Salt Lake International Airport on Saturday, 02/20 (JA).

Another HARRIS' SPARROW was seen at Dimple Dell Park in Sandy on Wednesday, 02/17. The bird was seen near the 1300 East entrance, just east of where the North Rim Trail splits from the Cliff Trail (MJ).


UINTAH COUNTY An eagle census at Ouray NWR found 122 BALD EAGLES at the refuge on Wednesday, 02/17. A PEREGRINE FALCON was also seen during the census (MDL).


UTAH COUNTY The FIELD SPARROW which has been at the Lindon Boat Harbor since 01/09, continues to be seen. It was reported most recently on Saturday, 02/20 (AG,YS,BS). The bird was in the marshy area south of the gate.

A SAGE SPARROW was seen on the east side of the Lindon sewage treatment plant on Thursday, 02/25 (RS).

A flock of at least 100 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS, along with a greater number of Cedar Waxwings, was seen on the BYU campus in Orem on Tuesday, 02/23 (SG).

An immature COMMON MOORHEN was seen near the south jetty at Utah Lake State Park on Tuesday, 02/23 (CP).

Two TREE SWALLOWS were seen at the Oxbow area on the lower Provo River on Friday, 02/19 (AH).

In the wetlands east of the northern Springville exit from I-15, four GREATER YELLOWLEGS and a WHITE-FACED IBIS were seen on Wednesday, 02/17 (RS).


WASATCH COUNTY A MERLIN was seen at the entrance to the Homestead in Midway on Saturday, 02/20 (AG,YS,BS).


WASHINGTON COUNTY A mixed flock of WESTERN and MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS was seen at Lytle Ranch in Beaver Dam Wash on Saturday, 02/20. On the same day 2 BLACK-TAILED GNATCATCHERS and numerous SAGE SPARROWS were seen near Zella Tank on the Beaver Dam Slope (NA,SH,MS,DW).

Two male HOODED MERGANSERS were seen at Quail Creek Reservoir on Sunday, 02/21 (NA,SH,MS,DW,LaW).


ANNOUNCEMENT The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and the Delta Chamber of Commerce will be holding the annual Snow Goose Festival on Friday and Saturday, March 5-6 at Gunnison Bend Reservoir, just west of Delta. The festival will include classes and opportunities to view 5,000 to 10,000 Snow and Ross' Geese.
