BOX ELDER COUNTY

A single BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was seen on Maheur's Pond in Brigham City on Saturday, 01/23. On the same day, two female HOODED MERGANSERS were seen just north of the north dike at Willard Bay (DS, many obs.)

THAYER'S GULLS and HERRING GULLS were seen at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge (BRMBR) on Saturday, 01/15, near the northwest corner of the auto-tour loop (DS, many obs.).


CACHE COUNTY

On the pond at first dam in Logan, 50-55 BARROW'S GOLDENEYE were seen on Saturday, 01/23. Also on the 23rd, a MERLIN of the "black," or suckleyi subspecies, was seen along US 91 west of Logan, and a WINTER WREN was seen along the stream in James Mack Park in Smithfield (DS, many obs.).


DAVIS COUNTY

About 30-35 GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES were seen along the west dike road at Farmington Bay WMA on Sunday, 01/24 (DJ).


MORGAN COUNTY

A HARRIS' SPARROW has been visiting a feeder at the Morgan Wastewater Treatment Plant. The bird was first sighted on Friday, 01/22, and was reported still visiting the feeder as of Tuesday, 01/26 (AS).


SALT LAKE COUNTY

A female WESTERN TANAGER was observed coming to a suet feeder in Holladay on Friday, 01/22, and again on Saturday, 01/23. The bird has not been seen since that time (JB).

MERLINS were reported from two different locations this past week. One was seen at Redwood Road and North Temple on Friday, 01/22 (BW), and the other was seen over East High School on Wednesday, 01/20 (ASa).


TOOELE COUNTY

A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen at the mouth of Ophir Canyon south of Tooele on Sunday, 01/24 (RJA,KJ,VS).


UTAH COUNTY

The FIELD SPARROW which has been at the Lindon Boat Harbor since Saturday, 01/09, continues to be seen. It has been reported by many observers on several days this past week, most recently from Monday, 01/25. The bird has been in a mixed flock with juncos, Tree Sparrows and Song Sparrows in the brush and small wood lot to the east and south of the boat harbor parking lot. The boat harbor is located on Utah Lake just west of the Geneva Steel Plant. This is the first legitimate record of Field Sparrow in Utah.

A single BOHEMIAN WAXWING was seen amongst a flock of Cedar Waxwings in the Provo Cemetery on Monday, 01/25 (TR).

Two LEWIS' WOODPECKERS were seen in Salem at 400 East and 9650 South on Friday, 01/22. On the same day, a GREATER SCAUP was seen with other ducks on Salem Pond (D,S&SM,MM).

Also on Friday, 01/22, a MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD and a LESSER GOLDFINCH were seen at Warm Springs WMA south of Utah Lake, and a variety of raptors, including a MERLIN and 3 PRAIRIE FALCONS, was seen along the west side of Utah Lake (EH,CP).


WASATCH COUNTY

About 50 GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES have been visiting a feeder in Midway for the past week. Birders interested in seeing the birds are asked to call (435) 654-4776 for directions and recent information on the birds (AF).


WEBER COUNTY

Near the gate on 900 West in Pleasant View, a LEWIS' WOODPECKER was seen on Saturday, 01/23 (DS, many obs.), and 10 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were seen on Sunday, 01/24 (DJ).

Eight RED CROSSBILLS were seen in the Ogden Cemetery on Sunday, 01/24, along with BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS (DJ). Ogden Cemetery can be reached by taking 20th East from Washington Blvd.


ANNOUNCEMENT:

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources will be holding it's annual Bald Eagle Day at seven locations statewide on Saturday, February 6. The locations are:
Salt Creek WMA - Box Elder Co.
Willard Bay SP - Box Elder Co.
Farmington Bay WMA - Davis Co.
Rush Lake and Ophir Canyon - Tooele Co.
Along Dinosaur Quarry Road in Jensen - Uinta Co.
Rush Lake Ranch - Iron Co.
Gordon Creek, between Helper and Price - Carbon Co.
