Evanston WY/UT106th CBC



On Saturday December 17, 2005 14 people in 5 vehicles, 1 snowmobile, and 
2 persons at feeders participated in the humble Evanston Wyoming/Utah 
Audubon Christmas Bird Count. Highlights were 288 Greater Sage-Grouse, 
our count target species, 3 Ferruginous Hawks (could be some double 
counting here), Snow Bunting and Black Rosy-Finch. Noticeably absent 
were Great Horned Owl, Wilson's Snipe, woodpeckers and blackbirds.

 

Count tally is as follows:

Mallard - 18, Ring-necked Duck - 2, Northern Pintail - 4, Green-winged 
Teal - 2, Common Goldeneye - 69,  Barrow's Goldeneye - 2, Common 
Merganser - 3, Northern Harrier - 7, Red-tailed Hawk - 1, Ferruginous 
Hawk - 3, Rough-legged Hawk - 12, Greater Sage-Grouse - 288, Golden 
Eagle - 11 (Adult 7, immature 4), Bald Eagle - 30 (Adult 23, immature 
7), Prairie Falcon - 1, Merlin - 1, Rock Pigeon - 30, Eurasian 
Collared-Dove - 22, Short-eared Owl - 1, Belted Kingfisher - 2,  
Northern (Red-shafted) Flicker - 7, Loggerhead Shrike - 1, Northern 
Shrike - 5, Black-billed Magpie - 201, American Crow - 2, Common Raven - 
11, Horned Lark - 174, Black-capped Chickadee - 15, Mountain Chickadee - 
7, American Dipper - 1, Townsend's Solitaire - 4, European Starling - 
200, Bohemian Waxwing - 14, Cedar Waxwing - 10, American Tree Sparrow - 
21, Dark-eyed (Slate-colored) Junco - 8, Dark-eyed (Oregon) Junco - 8,
