Re the "magpie funeral", coincidentally I was witness one of those events last winter on the University of Utah campus, just north of the biology building. Magpies are fascinating creatures, and now that I am back from my Utah sabbatical, I definitely miss them! Too bad I can't arrange to send you all some Harris' sparrows (we had over 800 of those on our recent CBC here in Manhattan) in exchange for some magpies!
