Hello eBirders

Yesterday, 2 August 2005, a Hornby's Storm-Petrel (Oceanodroma hornbyi) 
was photographed just southwest of Santa Rosa Island off southern 
California.  This species is new to North America!  It is primarily a 
South American species which occurs in the cold waters of the Humboldt 
Current off Peru and Chile.  It's breeding areas are unknown, but are 
suspected to be in the Atacama Desert in Chile!  An amazing find to say 
the least and congratulations to Peter Pyle for discovering another 
North American first.
