I think the crucial point is that Scott made her claim nearly a year before Sparling.  And presumably she was in the Big Woods area, unless the Ivory-billeds are more widespread.  Wouldn't that be great?
 
Unfortunately, apparently none of the other people in her group saw the bird.

I am not quite sure, if the two are related now, however,
she is given credit in an Arizona newspaper:
