central Utah spring birds

A number of personal annual firsts were observed today despite the
weather. A Swainson's hawk was seen sitting on a post along the freeway
just north of Nephi. Chicken Creek was choked with birds, including a
greater scaup, several willets, a white-faced ibis, and unidentified
swallow and sandpiper species. The flat open areas north of Yuba Lake
had several sage thrashers and vespers sparrows, while the pond
immediately below the dam was coursing with violet-green swallows.
