At 6:30 am I and a buddy travelled to the BR Bird Refuge.  Here is the list:
Red-winged Blackbird [Agelaius phoeniceus]
Western Meadowlark [Sturnella neglecta]
Northern Pintail [Anas acuta]
Mallard [Anas platyrhynchos]
Canada Goose [Branta canadensis]
Northern Harrier [Circus cyaneus]
Great Blue Heron [Ardea herodias]
American Coot [Fulica americana]
Marsh Wren [Cistothorus palustris]
Double-crested Cormorant [Phalacrocorax auritus]
Yellow-headed Blackbird [Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus]
Wild Turkey [Meleagris gallopavo]
Killdeer [Charadrius vociferus]
Tundra Swan [Cygnus columbianus]
Horned Lark [Eremophila alpestris]
American Coot [Fulica americana]
 
Two questions:
 
What do you all record each trip?  Place, time, birds, number of birds, weather, etc.?  I have been trying to record everything, and I get behind and then I don't record anything.  So, I'm wondering what is working for keeping useful records for others.
 
Also, I've been studying digital cameras for 100 years (it seems like) and I'm just not settling on anything.  I'd love to take pics of birds, but also need a camera that my wife can carry with her for soccer games, school plays, etc.  We want to spend between 300-400 so we're a little limited.  Are there great cameras out there that we can put in our pockets and take to a t-ball game and then add a lens for wildlife, etc.?
 
Any suggestions will be helpful and appreciated.  I know that a few of you have emailed me on this subject and I have noted your responses and filed the info.  I'm just still trying to figure out the type of camera we need.
