Subject: rosy finches at Alta this morning

Message: I don't know if the bird gods were smilling on me or if their faces were clenched as their teeth chattered, but a flock of about 30 rosy finches was seen at 11:30 a.m. at Alta. The birds were observed at the first house north of the bridge on the upper end of the Alta By-Pass road, i.e., in the usual place just west of the Powder Ridge development. The flock was mostly black rosy finches with a few gray-crowned rosy finches; they were extremely skittish, which, combined with the amount of cover at the site, made it impossible to be specific as to numbers of each.

Other mountain birds were also seen in the vicinity. No roadrunners were observed.
