Utah County Birders Field Trip Report

Six Utah County birders ventured out with Goshen Canyon as our location to bird. Our target species were Blue Grosbeaks and Yellow-Breasted Chats. At our first stop at the mouth of Goshen Canyon we walked out of the car and were greeted with a singing Blue Grosbeak, and a minute later a chattering Yellow-Breasted Chat. Was truly a treat a too see. Also as we stopped a Golden Eagle flew right over our head. Beautiful Cedar Waxwings fluttered around the willows. Great views right close of the birds. Then as the group turned around there was a Rock Wren almost within touching distance.
We then tried areas like Mona Resivoir in Juab County. An intresting bird of note in Juab County was 3 Juvenille Barn Owls north of Mona. At Spring Lake we got great looks at several Virginia Rails.
It truly was a wonderful trip, and a very nice morning to be out. Couldn't of asked for nicer weather. We saw 60 species before our trip was over. Not bad for a summer morning bird stroll. Join us next time if you would like. There is a field trip this Saturday to the Uintas led by Bryan Shirley. Next Thursday I will be leading a field trip to LeBarron Point. So those who would like to come, please join us.
