Re: Here a lek, there a lek, everywhere a lek lek lek?

A lek is a strutting ground used by a variety of Grouse.  It is a very effective strategy for these birds to find suitable mates.  Imagine, wandering hither and yon through the Sage-steppe habitat hoping to encounter another of your species and then hopefully of the opposite sex and mature enough to breed.

The lek is the answer to the efficient gathering of birds of that species, where they can exhibit behavior, vocalization, dominance, etc.  Hens select mates from those displaying.  Immature birds watch and learn for the season when they will be able to participate.

A lek is also a great scrabble word.  You always get challenged and win!

Enjoy the birds,
