Subject: Bountiful Landfill, 1-6-04

Message: Pomera, Glenn and I tried for the Lesser Black-backed Gull at the landfill on Tuesday, but didn't find it. The gulls north of the landfill were so far out on the ice it was impossible to tell much other than size. We did see Herring, California and Ring-bills by the tons--probably a Thayer's and maybe Bonaparte's but we weren't spending too much time looking at those--just tried to find the rarity.

Farmington Bay is pretty much iced over except at the bridges and on the south end of the west dike. There were 4 Least Sandpipers at the south end on the west side of the dike. A Ruddy Duck, Pied-billed Grebes, Northern Harriers, Common Goldeneye, and a Kingfisher rounded out the list.

Good birding y'all,
Julie
