Great Birding Field Trips= fundraiser for GSL Audubon



Attention Birders: 

Special Birding Field Trips are being offered as Auction Items at the informal Gala Fundraiser for Great Salt Lake Audubon. Saturday, November 8th; 6 - 10p.m. [NOTE: does not conflict with Utah Ornithological Society Conference which ends at 5:00]

Location: Jewish Community Center; 2 North Medical Drive; SLC  (adjacent to University of Utah campus)

Caterer: Pinon Market and Café; Tickets: suggested donation of $50.00

 

We hope you will get together with friends, decide how much each of you is willing to pay for the opportunity, combine your funds, and all come to the fundraiser (or send an emissary to bid for you). We?ll all win?you, a fabulous birding trip and a fun evening and Great Salt Lake Audubon wins with funds to support operations.

Ambassador Duck Club: Half day field trip behind-the-gates with lunch provided for 1-4

Leader: Patrick Kelly, member of club and Great Salt Lake Audubon

Explore these well managed (for ducks, of course, but also shorebirds) privately held wetlands on the south shore of Great Salt Lake. The duck club abuts Farmington Bay and the Audubon Gillmor Sanctuary. Peregrine Falcons and Barn Owls nest on the property.

 

 

Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge: Half day behind-the-gates field trip for 1 to 8

Birding with Ella Sorensen: a private, full day field trip
Ella is well-known Utah Birder, author, and avid protector of bird habitats in the state. Currently she is manager of the National Audubon Society?s Gillmor Sanctuary on the south shore of Great Salt Lake. For 11 years she has also written a monthly article on birds for the Salt Lake Tribune.

 

 

Deseret Ranch: two places on one-day trip in 2004; includes lunch and transportation

Leader: Mark Stackhouse

Mark?s expertise as a birding guide is well known. He is one of few allowed to lead birding trips to this private ranch that includes 250,000 acres of varied habitat from rolling hills of sagebrush and grass to mountain ridges and meadows with marsh, streams, and ponds. A one-day trip is likely to provide sighting of well over 100 species of birds, besides other abundant wildlife and spectacular scenery. Dates available: May 22, June 5, 12, 26 or July 17.

 

Deseret Ranch: one place on three-day tour of the ranch, May 12-14, 2004

Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area: Half day field trip in winter behind-the-gates Enjoy the Bald Eagles that are plentiful at Farmington Bay in February. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Ideal field trip for families. Group Limit: 10

Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area: an evening tour in spring to enjoy the birds, the scenery, and the sunset. 5:00 p.m. to dusk. Picnic dinner will be provided.

La Plata in late spring: full-day birding trip for up to 10 with light lunch provided

Not a birding trip, but hosting by a birder.

Hosts: Jay Banta, manager of Fish Springs National Wildlife Refuge, and his wife Frances
