Mandarin Duck and a Family of Goose Hybrids
4 Feb 2006

E-mail from David Wheeler:

There has been a gorgeous male Mandarin duck for at least two or three months in the Jordan River about a half block south of the Day-Riverside Library in Salt Lake City. Though not accepted as an established species on the Utah list, he is aesthetically a real treat, and allows people to get real close for wonderful photos. He hangs out right where the river swings closest to the road approximately 950 North and VERY approximately 1500 West (first street east of the library).

Also there is a family of goose hybrids (domestic goose x Canada goose, along with both parents). I was not aware that these species could successfully breed together (seeing as they are not even of the same genus, let alone species). They are an interesting cross between the parents.
