Ferron Canyon Road & Reservoir

High Altitude Ferron Reservoir    by Milt Moody   İMilton G. Moody

Directions:  (From Ferron) From UT 10 in Ferron, take the Ferron Canyon Road (FR 022) which leads 28 miles to Ferron Reservoir.
(From Mayfield) From Mayfield, take the "Mayfield to Ferron Road" (FR 022) 22 miles to the reservoir.

Description:  Starting from the Ferron side  with low-lying pinyon-juniper areas, this canyon road provides a great variety of habitats as it climbs to some high mountain lakes surrounded by firs trees and wildflowers.  The narrow one-lane-with-pull-offs road is well-graded and skirts (precariously, it seems) along the mountain side with looming drop-offs which are not for the faint of heart.  The spectacular alpine area at the top is your reward.  The road to Mayfield is much less un-nerving but the road is a little more wash-boardy, but not that bad.
