Song or call & method of delivery: Bird was silent.

Behavior:
Prominent perches on tree branches at the edge of the water. The bird would sit perched then fly out over the water chasing bugs, then return to a branch to perch. It worked back and forth between three different trees. There was a Say s Phoebe in the same tree for a good comparison of size.
Habitat: Arid southwest desert.
Similar species and how
were they eliminated:
Rock Wren. Eliminated because the wren s beak is longer and down curved. This bird had a shorter strait beak. Back on rock wren has a speckled appearance, this bird had a uniform color on the back. Behavior was a primary reason to eliminate Rock Wren. This bird behaved like a flycatcher. Chasing insects from a prominent perch.
Previous experience with
this & similar species:
I have seen this bird, several times in Nevada, Texas, Arizona, Utah and California in adult and juvenile plumage.
