Field Marks and
Identifying Characteristics:
Very similar to the gray-crowned rosy finches except the head. Where the GCRF has prominent gray patch above and behind the eye this bird has a very faint grayish brown patch in the same location. on this bird the patch was smaller and faded gradually to the black crown and the brown at the back of the head. The patch is so faint the it is almost not noticeable, being almost the same color as the rest of the head. According Sibley Second Edition A first winter GCRF though faint shows much more gray on head than this bird.
