Field Marks and
Identifying Characteristics:
Small warbler.

Bright yellow forehead, throat, breast, and belly. Olive nape and back. Black eye-line. Gray wings and tail. Two faint white wing-bars. White outer tail feathers. White undertail coverts.

Appears to be a second year male. White wing-bars are faint but present. Yellow on forehead is blended with olive on crown farther forward than on adult males. Black eye-line is not as dark as on adult males. White on outer tail feathers is prominent.

This bird was captured in a mist net on the UTTR. Measurements are as follows...

Similar species and how
were they eliminated:
Prothonotary warbler. Our bird had a black eye-line and faint white wing-bars. White on outer tail feathers extends to the tip of the feather where prothonotary warbler will have black tips. Prothonotary warbler is larger in size and weighs substantially more.

this & similar species:
No experience with blue-winged warbler. Very experienced with warblers common to Utah.
