Ken Schneider (24 September 2015) - [Panguitch Lake] - Baird's Sandpiper. Three juveniles seen on the southwestern shore of the lake, along with a single Western Sandpiper. The shorebirds were about fifty meters away, with the afternoon sun behind me and few heat waves noted as I watched them through my spotting scope. These sandpipers were slightly larger than the Western Sandpiper, with a scaly appearance to the upperparts due to dark-centered feathers with buffy fringes. Overall, the birds had a warm brown tone to the plumage, with a buffy breast and white belly. The legs were black, as was the bill, which was straight and about the same length as the head width in profile. The long blackish wingtips extended well beyond the tip of the tail. I've appended a collage of digiscoped photos I took of the birds, with one photo showing a comparison with a Western Sandpiper.

Ken Schneider (22 September 2015) - [Jackson Flat Reservoir] - Neotropic Cormorant. Solitary cormorant seen first swimming on the lake about 20 yards away, then later seen in flight overhead. I have lots of experience with DCCO and some experience with NECO in the Southwest, but consider this a difficult ID in many cases. This bird had dark lores, a pointed angle to the rear end of the gular skin and a very long tail and rather skinny neck seen in flight. There was only faint white feathering bordering the gular pouch. I took a number of photos in flight and on the water, although the lighting just after sunrise on a cloudy day was not ideal. My best photos are below:

Mike Wallace (7 September 2015) - [East Millcreek] - I did briefly see one Hummer (Broad-tail or Rufous, didn't get close enough look) this morning at our home feeders. Heard one Hummer again mid-day when I also saw about 5 Am. Crows flying west along the south side of Mill Creek here at about 2500 East. We have one good sized covey of Calif. Quail resident in the area. I see them around our neighborhood. ...Heard Western Screech Owls again last night as they presumably hunted in the local woods. Of course, lots of Chickadees, Sparrows and Finches, Mourning Doves which are all fairly common residents here. There are 1 or 2 Eurasian Collared Doves here. Golden Eagles reported by my brother-in-law yesterday in the SLC Avenues, Virginia St. / Federal Heights area. He reports these as having been nesting and resident this and past summers. He sees them from time to time over and near his home in the Aves.
