BOX ELDER COUNTY

Paul Higgins (28 May 2013) - Yesterday morning, I was at Bear River, FWMA, Box Elder County, Utah. I have never seen so many Common Yellowthroat males, singing. I stopped at one place (1/10th of a mile from the end of the auto loop), and counted four at that one stop.

CACHE COUNTY

Ryan O'Donnell (15 May 20130 - I love migration! This afternoon I was quite excited to find a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak in my yard in Logan. Then I saw a report from Cari Johnson to eBird of a Summer Tanager coming to her feeders in North Logan!

Dave Hanscom (15 May 2013) - Vivian Schneggs found two Bobolinks at Swaner Preserve at Kimball Junction this morning. We also found two Say's Phoebes at Swaner. Both of these are first for me on the Preserve.

Ryan O'Donnell
(5 May 2013) - I had a great afternoon of birding today (Sunday May 5) with Bob Atwood, Cullen Clark, and Britney Clark. We were also briefly joined at various points by Connie Johnson, BJ Johnson, Jean Lown, and Bryan Dixon. The highlight for me was TWO GLOSSY IBIS along Hyde Park Lane in Benson (along with at least one GLOSSY x WHITE-FACED IBIS HYBRID).  I also had my first of the year BREWER'S SPARROW along this road. We continued to the Amalga Barrens where the highlights were a group of five BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and a PECTORAL SANDPIPER. It was a great day for us, but not for the LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER that we watched being caught and then consumed by a PEREGRINE FALCON.

Ron Hellstern (5 May 2013) - Bullock's Orioles and Black Chinned Hummingbirds have begun their annual quarrel over the feeders here in Nibley, Utah. Good to see them again.

Bryant Olsen (13 May 2013) - [Antelope Island] - STILT SANDPIPERS,9 of them north of the 5mm AIC... BB PLOVERS were fewer but still present. GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS on the road to the ranch, .... at Garr Ranch, nothing unusual however except the continuing NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH. GREAT-HORNED OWL chicks at the ranch and the corrals...

Three Ruddy Turnstones...Semi-palmated Plovers at the first water on the south and a small flock at the first bridge. A large flock of LB Dowitchers at the first bridge...

We were able to see four different males, which seem to be setting up territory over a field Southwest of the Henefer Sewer Lagoons. An AMERICAN BITTERN flew over the area beyond the main pond and then landed behind a rise in that direction...The western pond appeared to have continuing NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS in a small snag in the middle. Nearby I saw my first RING-NECKED DUCK in this area.

-- The Horned Grebe remained in the area just west of the inlet. Still lots of Red-necked Grebes and Common Loons, but no yellow bills.
